Abstract
The disease caused by infection with parasites from the genus Plasmodium is called malaria. Parasite density was higher in patients with hypoglycemia than in patients without hypoglycemia. This indicates that the increased number of plasmodium in the human body can cause hypoglycemia due to the parasite's metabolism. This study aimed to determine the relationship between parasite density and random blood glucose. This research is a cross-sectional study with 36 malaria positive respondents at Biak District Hospital using accidental sampling technique. Data were analyzed using SPSS with descriptive analysis and Kendal Tau test. The results showed that 44.4% of patients were positive for malaria with mild parasite density and random blood glucose was 63.9% with normal results. The Kendall Tau test obtained a sig result of 0.820 > 0.05, so it can be concluded that there is no significant relationship between parasite density and random blood glucose. The incidence of hypoglycemia is not only due to the density of parasites but also the form and type of plasmodium that infects.
