Abstract

Background: The accuracy of blood glucose examination results heavily depends on the internal quality control applied in the laboratory, which requires the use of control materials. The development of stable and standard-compliant control materials is an urgent need to support laboratory testing quality. Objective: To evaluate the stability of pooled sera with ethylene glycol and pooledplasma with NaF as control materials for glucose examination. Methods: This study used a quasi-experimental design with simple random sampling conducted at the SMC Laboratory, Telogorejo Hospital, Semarang. Data analysis employed a stability calculation formula adopted from ISO 13528. Results: Stability analysis revealed that pooled sera with ethylene glycol and pooledplasma with NaF stored at -15°C had stability values of 0.95% and 1.07%, respectively. Both failed to meet the stability criterion of ≤0.33%. Conclusion: Pooledserawith ethylene glycol and pooled plasma with NaF stored at -15°C were deemed unstable, although pooled sera with ethylene glycol demonstrated better stability than pooled plasma with NaF. Recommendation: Further research is suggested using ethylene glycol concentrations of 7.5-17.5% and determining the optimal thawing process duration for sample preparation.
