Abstract

Anemia during pregnancy will cause the baby to be born to experience infections, premature babies or low birth weight babies and the risk of morbidity and mortality of mothers and babies increases. The prevalence of anemia in pregnant women is 14% in developed countries and 51% in developing countries. The purpose of this study was to analyze the relationship between anemia and chronic energy deficiency in pregnant women with the incidence of low birth weight babies. This study used a cross sectional research design. The population of this study were 52 respondents in the third trimester. The sample in this study were 52 respondents. The sampling technique used is total sampling. The independent variable is anemia and chronic energy deficiency, while the dependent variable is birth weight. This instrument uses a checklist sheet with Chi Square analysis test. The results of the analysis test showed that there was a relationship between anemia and birth weight with a p-value of 0,001. The relationship between anemia in pregnant women and birth weight with PR 21,5, meaning that mothers who are anemic during pregnancy have a 21,5 times greater risk of giving birth to babies with low birth weight babies than mothers who are not anemic. The relationship between chronic energy deficiency and birth weight with a p-value of 0,000. The relationship between chronic energy deficiency and birth weight with PR 15,6 means that mothers who experience chronic energy deficiency have a 15,6 times greater risk of giving birth to babies with low birth weight compared to mothers who do not experience chronic energy deficiency. During pregnancy, pregnant women consume foods that contain iron and iron supplements. Suggestions for future researchers are to look for factors that can affect chronic energy deficiency in pregnant women.
