Abstract

Hands are parts of the human body that are susceptible to contamination by dirt, viruses and bacteria. Keeping hands clean can break the chain of transmission of various diseases. Transmission can occur due to daily activities that are always together in the same environment with different personal hygiene backgrounds between students. On dirty hands there are various kinds of bacteria, namely Staphylococcus aureus, Escherichia coli, Pseudomonas sp, Klebsiella sp, and Basillus sp. The purpose of this research was to determine the presence of bacteria on the palms of the hands. The research method used descriptive and sampling technique using Quota sampling with a total sample of 20 samples of swabs of students in dormitory III Darul Ulum Islamic Boarding School Jombang. The results of the research of 20 samples There were 3 samples (15%) on BAP media no growth of coccus bacterial colonies and 7 samples (35%) on MCA media no growth of stem bacterial colonies. The total growth of coccus bacteria on BAP media was 17 samples (85%) including Staphylococcus aureus (25%), Staphylococcus albus (60%), while the growth of stem bacteria on MCA media was 13 samples (65 %) of them were Escherichia coli bacteria as many as 5 samples (25%), Klebsiella as many as 6 samples (30%) and Pseudomonas as many as 2 samples (10%). In this research, Staphylococcus albus had the highest percentage in swabs of students in dormitory III Darul Ulum Islamic Boarding School Jombang. In future research, it is expected to develop research by counting the number of colonies and testing resistance to determine the sensitivity of antibiotics in bacterial growth.
